Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Creative Companies

Following the success of our breakfast seminar towards the end of last year, we will be revisiting this important topic at our complimentary lunchtime workshop on Thursday 27 April 2017.  It was clear from our last seminar that this is a topic about which companies and individuals feel strongly.  Whilst its profile is increasing and there is more open discussion, there remain some taboos and assumptions which are hindering a greater understanding of how we can identify and support those who may need help.

We will consider particularly the link between creativity and emotional health.  Recent research explores possible connections and vulnerability to emotional health issues for those who are of a creative nature and those who work in creative environments, such as architecture and design. 

We will discuss not only how to engender a working environment which promotes positive emotional health, but also how to spot likely signs of emotional health challenges as well as the legal framework within which this matter operates. 

We would like to focus particularly on the role of HR in relation to emotional health in the workplace:

• What can we do to lessen the likelihood of emotional health issues;
• What can we do to support those who face these challenges;
• What can we do to ensure our own positive emotional health;
• Challenges and barriers that we may face when addressing these issues.

We will be joined by Paul Spencer, Policy and Campaigns Manager from Mind, the mental health charity.

About the speakers:

Paul Spencer, Policy and Campaigns Manager from Mind, the mental health charity.  Mind’s purpose is to provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and to campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.  His role is to help to ensure that the rights, needs and priorities of people with mental health problems are heard by government, service providers and other organisations in England.

Kate Marks, the founder and MD of EvolutionHR, brings significant experience in HR gained in a variety of industries, with a particular focus on the built environment. She is author of "HR for Creative Companies" published by the RIBA.

Niki Winsor, senior consultant at EvolutionHR, specialises in the practical application of HR policies and procedures in SMEs across a number of sectors.
