About Tom
Tom Lacey (born London, 1972) studied architecture at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University (1992-95), the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow University (1996-98) and London South Bank University (2001-02).
After graduation he joined a prestigious international practice based in London, Dixon Jones, for two years as an architectural assistant. In 1998 he was offered a position at Richard Rogers Partnership (RRP, now Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners), one of the world’s leading architecture practices. While at RRP he spent five years working on many high-profile projects, including a period spent based in Spain, supervising the design and construction of Terminal 4 at Madrid Barajas Airport. The project went on to win the prestigious Stirling Prize in 2006.
Tom moved to Milan in Italy in 2004, where he joined Matteo Thun and Partners, a well-known multi-disciplinary practice best known for its success in the field of product design. As Design Director of Architecture, Tom was involved in numerous architectural projects in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Israel, Russia and several locations in the Middle East.
In 2011 he established Lacey & Saltykov Architects in London with Andrei Saltykov. Their first completed project was a new-build pair of semidetached houses in Wimbledon. The houses have been published in the national and international press and are award winning. They have recently completed their second project, a new house in Cornwall. The practice has worked on a diverse range of projects from new offices to university buildings. Following theirsuccess in a limited competition for Wimbledon College of Art they are now part of the framework of consultants for UAL.
Recent commissions range from a new 300,000 sq ft office building in Farringdon, to an apartment block in Enfield.
