Elliott Wood

Elliott Wood are structural and civil engineers. But we are no ordinary engineers. We are activists for a new kind of engineering profession in which our craft is re-evaluated by clients and collaborators and becomes pivotal to the design process. This paradigm shift relies on a combination of both technical and creative thinking.

Urbano Build is one of our most vibrant business communities with its own programme of regular networking events aimed at architects, developers, property investors, designers, interior designers and other professionals associated with the built environment sector to make connections, gather information, create associations and find new business opportunities.

As COP26 approaches, we are being increasingly bombarded with a  plethora of information pouring out of different construction bodies around COP26, alongside a host of terms such as retrofit, circular economy, and sustainability. And this is before we get behind the science of net-zero carbon and how to actually start on the pathway as individuals and companies.

This event is designed to bring clarity for those of us who are not technical experts, including those who commission construction projects, such as landowners, developers and investors, as well as those who want to bring their own construction-sector companies in line with latest best practice and guidance.

About our speaker

We are delighted to welcome Penny Gowler, Director and Head of Sustainability at Elliott Wood to act as our guide to offer illumination and clarity on the following key questions:

  • What do we mean by net-zero carbon, carbon-neutral, embedded carbon, the life cycle of a building, carbon footprint, sustainability, retrofit, circular economy and reuse vs recycling?
  • Can you compare and measure different material choices when discussing their sustainability and zero carbon impact?
  • What regulations exist that govern the use of materials in the built environment?
