Urbano Build is a programme of regular networking events in London aimed at architects, developers, property investors, designers, interior designers and other professionals associated with the built environment sector to make connections, gather information, create associations and find new business opportunities.

Urbano Build breakfast events are stripped down conferences, exploring interesting themes and built around great speakers, where the the focus is on networking and creating connections and opportunities. You always meet a diverse range of businesses and their representatives in a lively session of informal but facilitated networking.

Urbano loves to showcase leading British talent and innovators, alongside those shaping the future of the Built Environment sector. Previous Build speakers have included George Clarke, Kevin McCloud, Wayne Hemingway, Loyd Grossman (Heritage Alliance), Jane Duncan (new RIBA President), Casey Rutland (ARUP BIM Lead), Ed Green (Cabinet Office Procurement), Stephen Hodder (Ex RIBA President), Mark Bew and David Philp (Govt BIM Team), David Hancock (Cabinet Office), Andrew Pryke (BAM), Sadie Morgan (Chair of HS2 Design Panel/dRMM), lead representatives of ARUP, CCS, CITB, and Jackie Sadek, CEO of UK Regeneration, amongst others.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Alan Crane is Chair of The Building Control Performance Standards Advisory Group (BCPSAG) a sub committee of Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC). He is also a past President of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). 

Urbano Build networking event Alan CraneAlan has more than 40 years of industry experience, including 20 at Bovis, where he rose to chief operations director in charge of international operations. He was also involved with the Petronas Towers in Malaysia and Eurodisney in Paris. He was seconded to develop Canary Wharf and put in charge of building the £4bn London Docklands development.

Alan has sat on every industry committee going - from the Chair of the Movement for Innovation, the forerunner to Constructing Excellence - to the Architects Registration Board. He was awarded a CBE in 2003 for services to innovation in the construction industry.

Alan's presentation will look at building regulations and building control, with an opportunity to have a discussion on the Grenfell tragedy with others on implications for the industry (Urbano members who have expertise in the area and have written technical and legal commentary pieces for broadsheet press and BBC will be present).

Alan will also discuss how performance on building controls can be driven forward, and developing more customer relevant and topical standards. He will also be looking at where construction is likely to go following the General Election and Brexit.
