Our March Urbano speaker panel breakfast investigates an issue facing many smaller companies in these testing times: How can SMEs demonstrate their purpose beyond profit?
Without the resources that larger companies enjoy, demonstrating purpose can be challenging and complex for SMEs. Social value - the measurement used by the government and its agencies to measure such activities for tenders - can appear onerous and dissuade smaller companies from tendering. The financial benefit of becoming an Employee Owned Trust has reduced after the latest budget. And B Corp divides opinions amongst those committed to change.
Many of our member company directors and owners share a belief that their company's role is not just to make a profit, but also should kind to their employees, support their communities, and have the minimal impact on the environment. They are also generous supporters of charities and charitable projects.
About our panel
Our panellists, each at the top of their respective companies, represent different ways of showcasing their credentials as modern businesses, relevant to their different sectors.
Michelle French - Director at CAMA Assetstore, who works with many leading production houses in film and TV and whose commitment to CSR and sustainability is ingrained in the company.
Steve Drury, Director at Rooff Construction, whose role includes leading on social value as part of the company's ethos and its tender submissions.
Ben Schneider, Founder of IT Guys, a B Corp certified company which provides managed IT services, cybersecurity and AI implementation.
This event will also include those from other businesses, including those with B Corp certification, who will be free to share how they demonstrate their commitment to being good companies and the benefits it brings.
The event promises to be friendly, informative, interesting and enjoyable, all facilitated by Mark Herring, Urbano's Connector-In-Chief. This event will be hosted at Urbano Member's SAGAL's showroom in Clerkenwell. SAGAL are workplace designers and furniture suppliers. They will supply a tasty breakfast and essential coffee to fuel the event.
