Urbano speaker panel breakfast - How Employment Rights Act will affect SMEs

Urbano speaker and panel events explore issues that those who run SMEs. 

About our October event
Small business owners and directors face a raft of changes that will affect the rights of their employees this autumn and early 2027. As SMEs account for around 99% of the economy and where 60% of the UK’s workers find employment, these changes directly affect most of our country’s workplaces, whilst recruitment by small companies is already at a five-year low.

This event will bring together employers and those with staff/empployment responsibilities to explore and discuss how these changes, including liabilities around workers’ rights, unfair dismissal claims, sexual and third-party harassment, tribunals and union recognition for employees, will affect their companies and explain how to ensure the correct procedures and safeguards are in place.

In addition, changes to specific sectors, including hospitality (tipping), umbrella payment schemes (tech/construction) and others will be included. 

Leading the panel will be Debra Spurway, Director of HR Dept London City & Central. Debra has 25 years’ experience advising on matters relating to HR, Employment Law and Training & Development with a well-earned reputation for providing pragmatic and commercial advice to employers. Joining the panel and contributing to this interactive event will be others with responsilities for the HR, employment policies and practices, including Urbano members Veretec & Bowman Riley, with others TBC.

SME employers, directors and senior representatives within non-member companies' employee/people departments are welcome to book this event, including those who have attended two Urbano events previously.

Like all our speaker networking events, there will be plenty of time for attendees to meet and connect, then invited to share their own opinions on these changes during the panel discussion, all facilitated by Mark Herring, Urbano's Connector-In-Chief.

This event will be hosted at Urbano Member's SAGAL's showroom in Clerkenwell. SAGAL are workplace designers and furniture suppliers. They will supply a tasty breakfast and essential coffee to fuel the event.
