About Michael
Michael is a Chartered Engineer committed to sustainability with expertise in low carbon and passive design engineering. He established P3R Engineers in 2012, following his position as Senior Partner at Michael Popper Associates, which he founded in 1990.
He has worked throughout his career with both leading and younger creative architecture practices and other built environment businesses, especially those who seek the best creative, practical ideas, helping them engineer high quality design solutions.
Mike leads the business and guides the P3R team. He collaborates with architects, clients and the development team (including cost consultants and contractors) to integrate the design of building services into the design process.
He is especially interested in finding the passive design potential in new and existing buildings, advocating for uncomplicated yet effective building services. He has applied this approach in several innovative projects, and delivered a paper on this topic to the International Institute of Conservation (IIC) on passive archives.
Alongside P3R, Michael gives lectures and presentations in building services design and energy performance. His voluntary work includes being sustainability adviser for The Dioceses of Southwark and St Albans, and the Watford Shaping Panel. He also provides design services for the humanitarian architecture charity, Article 25.
